Overview

YT Watch Marker is a Chrome browser extension that helps you track your watched YouTube videos. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how data is handled.

Data We Collect

YT Watch Marker collects and stores the following data locally on your device:

• Video watch state: YouTube video IDs, watch progress (time watched), and seen/unseen status.
• Video metadata: Video titles, channel names, and video durations retrieved from the YouTube Data API to display in the dashboard.
• User preferences: Your extension settings such as theme, language, color preferences, and seen threshold.

How We Use Your Data

All collected data is used exclusively to provide the extension's core functionality:

• Displaying visual watch progress indicators on YouTube pages.
• Populating the dashboard with your watch history and video metadata.
• Applying your personalized settings across the extension.

Data Storage

By default, all data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs (chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync). No data is sent to any external server operated by us.

Google Drive Sync (Optional)

If you enable the optional Google Drive sync feature, your watch data is stored in a private application data folder on your personal Google Drive account. This folder is only accessible by the extension and cannot be viewed or accessed by other applications or users. You can disable this feature at any time.

YouTube Data API

The extension uses the YouTube Data API v3 (read-only) with an API key to retrieve video metadata such as titles, channel names, and video durations. No user authentication is required for this feature. This data is used solely to display information in the dashboard and is cached locally to minimize API requests. No YouTube data is shared with third parties.

By using this extension, you also agree to YouTube's Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.

Third-Party Services

The extension interacts with the following Google services:

• YouTube Data API: To retrieve video metadata (titles, channels, durations) using an API key. No user login required.
• Google Drive API: Only when cloud sync is enabled by the user, to store and retrieve watch data.
• Google OAuth 2.0: To authenticate your Google account for Google Drive sync only.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, share, or transfer any of your data to third parties. The extension does not contain any analytics, tracking, or advertising services.

Data Deletion

You can delete all stored data at any time through the extension's dashboard settings using the "Reset All Data" option. This removes all local data and, if enabled, the cloud sync file from your Google Drive.

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions:

• storage: To save watch data and settings locally.
• identity: To authenticate with Google for Drive sync.
• host_permissions (youtube.com): To detect and mark watched videos on YouTube pages.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date.
